Guide

Pari, your log angel

Pari is the AI assistant built into Logthread. She helps you write queries, pick time ranges, metrics and fields, draft dashboards, and find your way around the product. She runs on Logthread's AI service in Mumbai, India, uses AI credits (one per message), and your workspace owner can turn her off.

What can Pari do#

Ask in plain words. Pari replies in short text and can propose actions. Each action appears as a card with a button, and nothing runs until you click it. She proposes at most three per reply.

  • Write a query for Explore (Logthread Query Language), or a read-only SQL or KQL query for the SQL page.
  • Point you to Slow queries when a query is slow, so you can see what it read and narrow it.
  • Chart a metric, with an aggregation, grouping, filters and interval.
  • Change the time range of the page you are on.
  • Draft a dashboard with panels and variables. Every panel is checked on your workspace before you see it: a log query that does not parse, a metric that does not exist or a field no record has sends Pari back to fix it, and the card shows each panel's match count ("checked, 0 matches" is different from "not checked").
  • Prepare an alert rule: a search count over a threshold, a computed value such as p95, or a percentage. Create alert opens the alert editor already filled in (the same page you reach from Explore), with the threshold, window and a suggested channel type; nothing is saved until you finish the editor. The search is counted on your data first.
  • Link you to the right page in the app, including a particular dashboard, alert rule, incident, pipeline, trace, thread or integration, Settings → Single sign-on, or a documentation page. Pari knows every page of the app by heart.
  • Explain how Logthread features work.
  • Say how your services depend on each other, from the service map's topology graph: what a service calls or is called by, dependencies that failing services share, and how many incidents or error patterns sit on a chain. She sees names and counts only, never call rates, latency or error counts.

Pari is a guide to the product, not a log analyst. She cannot see your data, so she cannot tell you why something failed or interpret results. She can write a query that finds it, or point you to Patterns or Traces.

How do I open Pari#

  • Press Ctrl+J (Windows, Linux) or Cmd+J (Mac), or click the Pari button in the top bar.
  • Type your question and press Enter to send. Shift+Enter adds a new line. Messages can be up to 2,000 characters.
  • Use the starter chips for ideas. They change with the page you are on, for example Write a query for errors in the last hour on Explore.
  • Click New conversation to clear the thread, and Close Pari to hide the panel.

Pari is available to members, admins and owners. Viewers cannot use her. The panel header shows how many credits are left.

What does Pari send to the AI service#

When you send a message, Logthread sends this to its AI service, which runs in Mumbai, India:

  • Your message and recent turns of the conversation (the last 12 turns, trimmed further if needed).
  • The settings of the page you are on: the page route and title, the time range, and filters or query text on the page, including the names of the settings (masked too). This is capped at 4 KB.
  • A catalogue of names from the last 24 hours: service names, log field names (attribute keys) and metric names with their types. Names only, up to 100 of each. Names are masked like your messages: a service name that contains an email address reaches the AI service as a placeholder, and Logthread puts the real name back into the query Pari proposes.
  • When she asks the topology graph: service, database and host names, hop counts and how many incidents or error patterns are involved. No metric values, pattern text or log content.
  • Logthread's own fixed product guide, so she knows the query language, pages and features.

Before sending, Logthread masks your message and the page text with its sensitive-data detectors (cards, Aadhaar, PAN, emails, phone numbers, JWTs, bearer tokens, AWS keys and secret key-value pairs). If masking is unavailable, nothing is sent and you are asked to retry.

What is never sent#

Log contents, trace data and metric values are never sent. That includes log bodies, attribute values, spans, metric values and query results. Page state that looks like result data is dropped before it leaves your browser.

Your messages and Pari's replies are stored in your workspace so the conversation survives a refresh. You can clear them any time with New conversation, and messages older than 90 days are deleted automatically.

How many AI credits do I get#

One Pari message uses one credit.

  • Each workspace gets a one-time grant: 100 credits on a paid plan, 10 on Free. Moving to a paid plan tops it up to 100.
  • Platform admins at Logthread can grant more.
  • Your balance is on the AI credits card on Administration → Usage: Included, Granted, Used, Remaining, Billable this period.
  • When credits are used up, Pari shows No credits left with your balance and who can approve more. Request more credits opens the plan dialog on Administration → Usage (owners and admins) or writes to a workspace owner (everyone else). Logthread staff approve extra credits and plan changes. If your workspace has an active billing contract, messages beyond your credits are billed to it instead.
  • If the provider is unavailable, takes longer than a minute (you can also press Stop), or returns an unusable answer, you are not charged.

How do I turn Pari off#

Only the workspace owner can. Go to Settings, then the AI tab (Pari, the AI assistant). The page shows the data notice and your credit cost. Click Turn off Pari, or Turn on Pari to enable her again. Pari is on by default where the assistant is configured, and turning her on or off is recorded in the Audit log.

If the page says Pari is not set up on this Logthread server, the assistant is not configured there and an owner cannot turn her on; the Pari button then shows that explanation instead of the panel. When an owner has turned Pari off, the button is hidden and Settings → AI says who turned her off and how to turn her back on.

What are the limits#
